Spatial Audio Designer (SAD)
Spatial Audio is a new immersive way to listen to sound, when you are creating spatial audio you are producing sound that is 360° around a fixed object which in our case will be the listener/audience.
The first time we heard about SAD software was from Electronic Music Malta (EMM), when back in 2020, General Manager and visionary of NEW AUDIO TECHNOLOGY, Tom Ammermann conducted a workshop on SAD for EMM members during Circuits Conference. For us this was a very important moment because apart from learning about this new technology we also were inspired to use this tool for our own vision.
SAD is a VST plugin that works via Ableton Live or any other DAW and what it does is it basically mixes/pan the audio on the the full speaker configuration, in our case the 5.2.4
You can distribute and automate the sound in SAD either by Automation the X / Y / Z knobs on the SENDS SECTION (as seen in the image below) or you can also do this from the PAN SECTION of the software by dragging the coloured dot (which represents a track/instrument on ableton)
Our vision and our ongoing research is based on using a dancer as a controller to displace and automate sounds in Spatial Audio. This will be explained in more detail with a video clip in another post about the music performance experiments we arew working on.
