'SKETCH' : CHORD PROGRESSION

Updated: Mar 6, 2023

The intro of our presentation was one of the most orchestrated scenes of the whole ‘show’. This was inspired by one of the very first experiments that we did, where we were triggering 2 simple chords with the sensor while layering other notes played on another keyboard. This chord progression screamed “intro” to us, so it was polished and was used as the intro for the presentation.

The two chord progression evolved into a three chord progression. The initial idea was to have Neil play on the keyboard while Cheryl is controlling the filter cutoff and proceed to playing the chord progression with her movements. To add to the drama since it was the intro, we later decided that Cheryl should also be the one playing on the keyboard and controlling all the sounds of the intro herself.

The chords are simply being triggered by the sensor’s gyro triggers explained in more detail here. Three selected gyro axis triggers are playing three different chords while the pitch is controlling the cutoff filter of the synth playing the chords. The visuals are reacting to the intensity of the chord being produced.
